What an army...NDP!!
Today me felt so weird when thinking about army. Doing NDP duties made my life interesting from the repetitive field camps and camp life. But today was a strange sight. We were transported by a tonnel(a.k.a. big truck) to Jurong East Heartlands(field opp. the MRT) to do fatigue work(What else? Make you an odd job labourer la). Everything was ordinary at first, but then some bangladesh or thai or whatever worker had to come into the scene and work beside us. Juxtaposed together, we felt like underpaid cheap labourers in different uniform thats all. Pretty funny...how I see it. It reminds me of how unique army life is.Then others joked about our scorched skin. 6-7 hours working in the sun transformed the exposed parts to a blistering red colour while the unexposed parts remained relatively white-the SINGAPORE FLAG!!
-Morning, you are a cleaner, hired to wash toilets and bunk, everything under the sun la. If you are tired, some would just pretend to hold a broom and just doze off!
-Then sometimes you are soldiering, holding guns and ammo and charging here and there.
-Maybe today is your day to become security guard, just patrol the perimeter of the camp and act cool lor.
-During NDP, you could also be part-time "CIVILIAN"? cos commanders are afraid civilians wont turn up for their show. Bad image!
-Or else, you will be like above mentioned "foreign dirt labour"
-Studying is not over. You are also a part-time student. You have to pass paper work test like weapons, vehicles & safety handling. Only thing its MCQs ahhahah. Once, I was stupid enought to go memorise the contents. *Bash myself!!*
-If you are lucky, you may get selected to be a sportsman to represent your unit in a sports competition(e.g. badminton, swimming etc.)
-Sleep varies from 0(ZERO/NIL/ZILCH/KOSONG/EGG) hrs to 16++ hrs. Nothing to do, some of us sleep like pigs..
-Or you could be part of army recruitment centre, quick prepare your gatsby wax and be a vase.
